The 4 years of the annual VANS PIT PARTY came to an end this past weekend in Cape Town.We had to wish The Pit farewell, this home away from home for most of SA’s skaters, is being demolished. But…not without a grand royale send off!
Saturday played host to our first official VANS sample sale which ran for 4 hours of the day, seeing people anxiously awaiting for the doors to open to get there hands on some fresh VANS threads and kicks. There were loads of happy faces as customers dug deep and found great bargains.
The Pit launched there amazing music compilation album with the help of Red Bull Studios and there was a great exhibition of photos from different photographs through out the year, which was made into a fantastic zine.
The day was coming to a close and the night was creeping in and that meant it was time to kick off the VANS annual bowl contest. Many of SA’s top transition skaters made it through to battle it out to see who could claim the top spot.
It all came down to four guys and only one could be named the winner. The crowd was going crazy, edging the guys on and pushing the level of skating to the next level.
1ST – YANN HOROWITZ
2ND – JOUBERT VAN STADEN
3RD – JUSTUS KOTZE
4TH – JUSTIN LESLIE
RED BULL BEST TRICK – YANN HOROWITZ with a wall to wall to wall transfer!
The night was not over yet and the crowd wasn’t going anywhere as they waited for The Make-Overs and Death Panthers to take to the mini ramp and belt out some pure metal! The awesome guys from Roasting Records followed next up on the wheels of steel and helped take the after party into the early hours of the morning.
A special thanks go out to The Pit, Red Bull and Stance.

Since I heard of this event I have always been too keen to check it out but only issue is that I was always in Johannesburg at the time. As a lover of deep house music I always followed the scene like a true disciple of house music, and if you are a disciple this is one of those events not to miss out as all.
